ICYMI: SPUM University Week 2022 Day 2: Paulinian Quiz Bee, Pet Parade, & Skills Training

The University Week continues its second day with a liturgy and opening remarks led by the vice president of the Christian Formation of Student Services, Sr. Nicole de Marie Dabalus, SPC. The occasion was then followed by the cluster-wide Paulinian Bible Quiz Bee with the participation of the senior high school students from St. Paul Colleges of Makati, Paranaque, Balayan, Island Park Inc., and St. Paul University Manila, where SPC Balayan and SPC Paranaque tied in 3rd place, SPC Island Park in 2nd place, and SPU Manila in 1st place. The event was hosted by Ms. Carla Mae Toling and Mr. Earl David Ong.
After the success of the Paulinian Quiz Bee, the virtual pet parade organized by the Paulinian Environmental Society, College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Education took place. The event started with a talk on why “Pets are the best Therapists” with guest speaker, Ms. Sharon Therese Bengzon-Yap, an Education and Campaigns officer of Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). She discussed the “10 ways on how pets support mental health” and the Dr. Dog program or the power of animal-assisted therapy, which is an animal therapy program that promotes animal welfare by promoting human welfare. After the talk, the event proceeded to the virtual pet parade which featured the Paulinian fur parents and their fur babies. An awarding ceremony was also held, the Best in Treats award goes to Cookie and Chip, the Best in Tricks award goes to Gucci and Molly and the Fashionista awards goes to Mara. The program was hosted by Ms. Angelica Roxas and Ms. Alex Adanza.
Following the virtual pet parade was another segment of “Love, Finally!” where Franchesca Faylona, Kayla Pasion, Bea Villanueva, Mika Navarro, and Angelina De Vera introduced a new set of song dedications and messages from the Paulinian community. Afterwards, the last event for the second day of the University Week took place. The College of Business and Management prepared a Skills-Based Training composed of 3 workshops consecutively. First, the “Plantable Scented Candle Making’’ by Ms. Denisse Briones. She discussed the costing, showed the process, and gave some tips in marketing the Plantable Scented Candles. Next was the “Art of Mixology’’ headed by Mr. Paulo Layao. He gave meaning to the art of mixology by comparing the basic terminologies related to it such as mixologist and flair tender, jigger and free pouring. Also, he showed the participants how to make Italian soda, Butterfly lemonade, Puto Biñan Milktea, and Panagbenga Roseberry cooler using the different basic mixology techniques. Lastly, Mr. Michael John Peña showed the participants, “The Future of Blockchain Tech’’ by defining blockchain as a DLT technology. He also discussed the Web3 game and app, Tokens, NFT, and technology stack.
