Sr. Ma Evangeline Anastacio, SPC: Portrait of a Blessing
By Jeunne Sunga | November 18, 2022
On November 18, 1961, in a town seated at the mouth of the Cagayan River, a girl named Maria Evangeline L. Anastacio was born. Little did her family know, she was set to conquer many things and eventually, become President of St. Paul University Manila.
Even in her younger years, Sr. Evangeline already showed the diligence and tenacity she is known for–earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering in the University of the Philippines, a diploma in Special Studies in Theology from the University of Santo Tomas, and an MA degree in Education from St. Paul University Philippines.
Aside from her countless achievements, she is also skilled in painting, singing, and dancing. She loves to spend her time trying new things, always seeking out adventures in life. Isn’t she so cool?
And not long after, in June 2014, she became the President of St. Paul University Manila. Since then, she has blessed our lives with her commitment to excellence, integrity, and good sense of humor. The students, Sisters, teachers, and staff of SPU Manila love to work with her because she always makes anyone and everyone feel seen and appreciated.
While serving the Paulinian Community as President, she continues to strive for excellence in her field. In the same year of her installment as the new University head, she was bestowed the “National Achievement Award for Higher Education” and in 2018, she earned a post-graduate certificate on “Top Management Program for Private HEI Presidents” and “Chancellors from Asian Institute of Management (AIM).”
One can go on about the many things that make Sr. Evangeline notable, but what makes her exceptionally great is her heart — a heart that lives to serve God and the community. This can be seen in the way she strives to help not only those inside the school, but those outside as well, from organizing outreach programs, such as community pantries and mobile pantries to disaster relief operations.
As we celebrate Sr. Ma. Evangeline Anastacio’s birthday this month, let us not only appreciate and thank her for all that she has done, but may we also be inspired by her. Like her, let us make sure that love is imbued in everything that we do.
From the bottom of our Paulinian hearts, let us wish Sr. Evangeline, a happy and blessed birth month! May her days be filled with nothing but pure joy and fulfillment.
