What’s Scarier Than Ghosts?
By: Kierstine Angeline Madrigal & Alexa Viray | November 28, 2022
Ghosts are often portrayed as creatures who have come back from the dead. May it be in stories or movies, the eerie representation definitely gives us goosebumps. But now, we are slowly transitioning to the phase when we are no longer children afraid of monsters under the bed or ghosts roaming around the house. Let’s admit it, real-life circumstances are scarier than these.
Ghosts aren’t real, but our problems are.
So, look out! What you’ll be reading below might be the cause of your nightmare!
Hell week? Hell, no!
This might be the top fear of every student. Nothing beats the pressure and stress every hell week. It’s an ocean filled with school work and students barely have time to rest. Once an activity is finished, another task will be added to the course board!
CETs-cary
College Entrance Tests (CETs) will make any senior high school [graduating] student tremble. After the two-year break from CETs, some universities have recently decided on a comeback for the academic year 2023–2024. Due to lack of experience in face-to-face examinations, it’s no doubt that we are all frightened. Pray that the ghosts won’t haunt you when you are up studying at 3:00 A.M. But you never know, maybe you can ask them for guidance!
Afforda-meals no more!
The increase in fast food prices is so scary that a horror story might seem like a fairy tale. Everyone’s wallet will freak out at the sight of the new rates. Some might think that supernatural entities are stealing their money, but it’s actually inflation eating its way into their allowances.
To Sleep or To Study?
One true horror story: Failing your midterms/finals. It’s terrifying even though it’s not a ghost hunting you down, but the books and reviewers. Choose one — will you sleep or study? Remember, low marks are definitely scarier than ghosts.
Saan aabot ang bente pesos mo?
The sudden increase in public transportation fares is truly shocking. Quick Math solving here: imagine having a 100 peso allowance and your overall expense for commuting is 80 pesos; what can you buy with 20 pesos nowadays? The surge in inflation is real! This type of misery is horrifying, but people have no choice but to adjust and just budget well.
These situations might tempt you to become one of the spirits and flee from all the worries. However, you must remember that being alive is still more beautiful than being the antagonist in a child’s bedroom story. Running away does not guarantee a problem-free life; it’s just a distraction that at the end of the day will bring you back to your dilemmas. Your spooky experiences are challenging you to face, accept, and overcome them all.
Keep in mind that the real monsters aren’t the ones under your bed. Sometimes, they are human-made problems we encounter in real life just waiting to be purged.
